Mr MacPhail and friends
We've just returned from an absolutely fabulous time at Golden Villa high up on the hills overlooking Chania - it was utterly amazing. We arrived at 1 am on the Friday morning and even at that time owner, Anastasia, met us at the villa. Her and her friend showed us round the vast villa, taking time to describe absolutely everything with great care. The villa was immaculate. It has everything you could possibly need and the quality of the finishings were exquisite - each room even had it's own robes and slippers - something you'd only get in the best hotels! There were 3 bedrooms up the stairs; 2 rooms with king beds and the other with 2 singles (that you could join if necessary). One had a ensuite and the other 2 shared a fabulous bathroom with whirlpool bath. They all shared a lovely balcony overlooking the pool and Chania below. The middle floor was the living area, with a TV area, sitting area, kitchen and even a study that had a desk and printer.
The lower area housed the gym, a full sized slate bed pool table, sitting area, ANOTHER kitchen and 2 further bedrooms - one with bunk beds and the other with a massive bed. There was also a full sized table tennis table just outside.
Outside we had 2 dining areas - one beside the pizza oven (lower level) and one beside the barbecue (upper level). Both had fabulous seating and we perfect for late evening meals with a glass of wine (or 2 or 3... :)!).
The pool area was also incredible - lots of seating (yet another sitting area too!), a large double bed for the late afternoon sun, a hot tub and of course the pool. We were there in October so by that time the pool was a tad chilly (to say the least!) but I'm guessing in the height of summer it would be totally fine.
The villa is up a very big and steep hill - it's more than 1000ft up (the road up there is somewhat daunting as is the driveway up the villa - it's steep!!) so the temperature does drop a few degrees which again would be perfect in the summer. We got a couple of cooler days where were went into Chania and the temperature difference was notable but we wouldn't change this for the world - the views and privacy you get being so high up was absolutely amazing. On that subject, the views are to die for - sitting in the hot tub of an evening looking out towards Chania were breathtaking.
Beyond the utter beauty of the villa, the owner, Anastasia could not have been nicer. She left us with some fantastic wine and extras, left us tons of firewood and charcoal for the pizza oven and barbecue, stocked the fridge full of apples from the grounds and even when they came round mid week to do a clean (it was again immaculate after that!) she left some water melons. She was so lovely and helpful.
In summary our week in Golden Hill was amazing and we would love to one day return. Pure luxury! Thanks to everyone - and also a big thank you to Audrey and her team at Luxury Villas who were super helpful and accommodating from beginning to end.
